   调整心态,掌握规律,将“完形”进行到底

    完形填空题难做,这是同学们较普遍的反映。导致该题正确率低下的原因主要有:
    (1)急于求成,匆忙答题,没有时间观念和全局观念。
    (2)忽略语篇开头。
    (3)忽略上下文提供的信息。
    (4)没有掌握词义的细小差别。
    (5)思维定势,生搬硬套。
    (6)忽略句子、段落之间的逻辑关系。
    笔者认为及早调整心态,对完形填空进行重新认识和了解,才能很好地将之进行到底。
    完形填空题的考试形式与考查目的
    完形填空题是英语知识运用部分的第二节考试形式。该节共20小题,每小题1.5分。在一篇200-250词的短文中较均匀的留出20个空白,要求考生从所给的4个选项中选出最佳选项,使补足后的短文意思通顺、前后连贯、结构完整。它是一种测验考生综合语言运用能力的填充式测验法。从近年的命题趋势来看,完形填空题的选项设计更突出对能力的考查,单纯的语法或词汇知识类题型设计几乎不再被考虑。
    完形填空题的考查目的主要有:
    ●阅读理解的能力,包括视读、扫读、跳读、查读。
    ●归纳、判断、分析和推理的能力。
    ●找准主题、话题及了解篇章结构的能力。
    ●扎实的词汇和语法知识,并能在情景中辨析。
    试题特点
    完形填空的选材通常是一篇夹叙夹议的文章。在近年的高考中“议”的比重不断加大,并且加入“人的思想变化”历程,这是完形填空难度大的主要原因。同学们要学会站在“他人”的角度去思考问题,不要把平时的完形练习只定位为机械的应试操练。
    完形填空的首句不设空。该句就是提示句。通过该句,考生可以确定文章的话题、主题、背景、人物、时间、地点、事件等等。因此同学们要仔细研读该句,帮助自己在最短的时间内进入状态和主题,为解题找准方向。
    例:“My name’s Jim Shelley and I’m an addict(有瘾的人)…”(NMET2004全国卷Ⅲ)
    分析:本文是一个打电话成瘾的人的自述,有一点黑色幽默的味道。做题是要围绕主人公想尽一切办法、利用一切机会打电话否则便会心神不宁这一线索。
    完形填空的选项设计以实词为主,虚词为辅。近年完形填空实词与虚词设空比较:

    完形填空题有后线索的特点。有些题从题枝上分析,找不出区别,选任何一项从语法角度,从词汇角度,甚至从上下文角度都没有差异,但细读全文,会发现这一正确选项会在下文中的某处出现。同学们应掌握这个特点,不要草率做选择。
    例:My sister and I grew up in a little village in England. Our father was a struggling _1__, but I always knew that he was _2__. He never criticized us, but used _3__ to bring out our best. He’d say, “If you pour water on flowers, they flourish. If you don’t give them water, they die.” I _4__ as a child I said something unpleasant __5__about somebody, and my father said , “__6__ time you say something unpleasant about somebody else, it’s a reflection of you.” He explained that if I looked for the best __7__ people, I would get the best _8__. From then on I’ve always tried to __9__ the principle in my life and later in running my company.
    Dad’s also always been very _10__. At 15, I started a magazine. It was _11_ a great deal of my time, and the headmaster of my school gave me a _12__: stay in school or leave to work on my magazine.
    I decided to leave, and Dad tried to sway me from my decision, _13_ any good father would.     分析:本文的作者回忆在他的成长过程中他父亲的重要作用。父亲从不粗暴责备,而是用表扬和鼓励帮助孩子成长。当作者决定放弃学业继续办自己的杂志的时候,父亲没有强迫他遵从自己的意志,而是用自己的亲身经历再次给他鼓励。第1题要求对父亲的职业进行选择,但直到文章的倒数第2段倒数第3行才出现一个决定性信息,即when I was 23, my dad _14_ me to go into law。该题应选C。
    解题思路与技巧
    牢固树立时间观念。做任何题都应有时间观念。根据自己平时训练的情况和各题的分值分配完成各部分试题所要的时间。完形填空只是一篇文章,但分值却达30分。一般说来完成一篇完形填空的时间控制在20-25分钟为宜。
    把握单位时间的效率。在这20-25分钟里,尽量完成以下步骤:
    第一:快速通读全文。在此过程中注意对数目有限的完整句子的理解,尤其是开篇的提示句。注意语境和相关提示,不要急于选择答案。
    第二:细读。在理解的基础上,边读边答。答题过程中注意使用先易后难、瞻前顾后等策略。遇到障碍时,先跳过冷却,不草率决定。把握后线索的特点。
    第三:三读,解决难点。通过逻辑思维,上下文的内在含义和结构联系,利用排除法,缩小选择范围。
    第四:完形后通读。看语言是否通顺、达意,情节发展是否合理。这是保证正确率的必要环节。
    我们用以上思路对我省2005年高考中的完形填空进行分析解答:
    In the summer vacation of 1997, I was fixed with a job. I worked as a(n) __1__ at Mr. Breen’s fruit shop. The fruit shop did __2__ business. Most of the trade came from the housewives who lived in the neighbourhood, _3__ he also had regular customers who arrived outside the shop in cars. Mr. Breen __4___ them all by name and they sometimes even had their order already made up, always __5__ me to carry it out to their car. They were clearly long-standing customers, and I __6___ they must have stayed faithful to him __7__ he had promised to sell good quality __8__. He had a way with them –I had to __9__ that. He called every woman “madam” for a start, __10__ those who clearly were not, but when he _11__ it, it did not sound like flattery(奉承). It just sounded _12__ in a old-fashioned way.     分析:
    第一:通过快速跳读和提示句的分析我们可以获得人物、事件等相关信息。文章记叙了作者在1997年暑假在Mr. Breen的水果店工作的经历。主要是他观察老板怎样吸引和保证客源。
    第二:在此基础上对题目展开解答。第一空选B,水果店的服务员。第二空应选A,根据下文的具体描述,水果店的客源除了周围的家庭主妇还有固定的驾车来买水果的顾客,因此生意好。第三空应选D,表示转折。第四空应选B,Mr. Breen知道每位熟客的名字。第五空应选C,只有get后可接somebody to do。第六空应选D,suppose意为“想”,只有它符合语境。第七空应选C,表示因果关系。第八空应选B,水果店里出售水果。第九空应选A,admit意为“承认”,只有它符合语境。第十空应选D,从此处介绍老板做生意的绝招,他称每一位妇女“女士”,即便是那些一看便知不是的也一样。他这样说的时候别人不觉得这是在奉承,只感觉是一种旧时的礼貌。因此第十一空应选B,第十二空应选C。第十三空应选A,as well放在句尾表示“也”。下文具体说明他如何也是一个很棒的聊天者,认识的人他会向他们问候家人、开开玩笑,不认识的人他会寒暄天气,所以第十四空应选C,第十五空应选D,第十六空应选B,第十七空应选A。付帐时总让客人免去零头也是老板拢络顾客的小手段,因此第十八空应选D。第十九、二十空分别选C、A,这是依据上文But I thought he was the opposite.这一线索做出的选择。
    第三:将选项代入文章,通读,看整个篇章是否语意明朗、通畅。
    完形填空题是一种测试语言水平和实际运用语言能力的综合性题型。要在气氛紧张、时间有限的情况下得到令人满意的正确率,这要求在平时的训练中养成良好的阅读习惯及写作习惯,并熟练掌握和运用各种答题技巧。但笔者认为更重要的是要培养良好的心理素质。调整心态,以一颗积极、平和心去迎接考试和挑战,你就能坚持到底。
