Properties: a recorder, a overhead projector, pictures, computer

Teaching Aims:

1. Words: weather, warm, heavily, crops, really, snow, snowman

2. Phrases: in your hometown, in different seasons, get warmer, in the fields, turn green, come out, love this time of year

3. Expressions: 1) How many seasons are there in your hometown?

        2) What’s the weather like in spring in your hometown?

        3) Thank you for your last letter.

        4) The weather gets warmer, and the days get longer.

4. Skill: How to write a letter

Teaching Steps:

Step 1 Revision

Revise the months of a year. Do the chain-drills. Let the students ask the following questions: Which is the first/second/third…month of a year?

Step 2 Pre-read

1         How many seasons are there in our hometown? What are they?

2         What’s the weather like in spring/summer/autumn/winter in our hometown?

3         What sports do the people like to play in different seasons?

Step 3 Presentation

1         Listen to the tape and then answer the questions.

  1) Who wrote this letter? Who was this letter to?

  2) What did she ask about Wang Wei in her last letter?

3) What's the weather like in spring in Hangzhou? Why does Wang Wei like   spring best?

4) What does Wang Wei often do in summer and winter?

5) Why does Wang Wei think autumn is a busy season?

6) Why does Wang Wei like winter?

2         Introduce the form of a letter.

Step 4 Listening

Listen to the tape and complete the form.
