  Teaching material: Describing colours
  Preparation: Ask every student to prepare 3 flags, a red one (5 points), a yellow one (3 points) and a green one (2 points).

  Aims & requirements:
  1. To grasp the names of colours.
  2. To learn colouring pictures in accordance with requirements.
  3. To master the words and phrases below:
    color red yellow blue green black orange white

  Difficult point:
  1. To remember the new words
  2. To describe things using the new words

Revision 3mins Ask the whole class to read the chant in Part 5, Lesson 48. Read the chant by groups, assess them at once. To warm up Evaluate the speed, the intonation, if you think they’re good, give them a red flag, if so-so, a yellow one, if not so good, a green one.
Presentation 1mins Show a picture of my car, saying, Look, I have a car. It’s white. It’s a white car. Teach the word “white”. To prepare for their listening to the dialogue in Part One, Lesson 49.  
Presentation 7mins Now, look and listen, then tell me, what can you see in the play? Show a short play three times. The first time is for them to look and listen, then check the answer; the second time is for them to listen and remember; the third time is for them to follow. During the procedure, teach the new word “red” and revise the old word “black”. 1. To teach the new words such as red, black and white

2. To teach the text.
 
Practice and Assessment 5mins Watch the play, and then practise in pairs. After that, ask two pairs to demonstrate, then let them assess each other. 1. To deepen the impression of the new words

2. To encourage them to speak out.
Assess their imitation, if you think their pronunciation and intonation are good, give them a red flag, if you think they are common, give them a yellow one, if you think they should be better next time, give them a green one.
Presentation 5mins Show the pictures of some cars one by one, they are red, yellow, blue, green, black, white, orange, grey, purple and orange. To teach the new words: red, yellow, blue, green, black, white, orange, grey, purple and orange.  
Practice and Assessment 8mins Let the students talk about the colourful things they have prepared. They should do it in a chain like this: what’s in your desk? What colour is it? Let’s see which group is the best. To revise the words they’ve just learnt, train them to use the new words to describe the real things. The best group will win a red flag, the second best group will have a yellow one, the third group will own a green one, and no flag for the last group.
Doing and Assessment 9mins Take out the paper they’ve prepare, ask and answer in pairs. Your may see many colourful things in the paper, ask your partner, what colour is it? Or what colour are they? Then you should choose a best pair from each group. Finally, we’ll discuss whose car/ flower/ book is the best, whose flower is nice. To arouse their interests in describing colors. Appreciate their pictures and listen to their describing, if both of them are good, they can get a red flag. If the speech is good but the picture is so-so, they may have a yellow one. If the picture is beautiful but they can’t describe it fluently, they will have a green flag. If neither the picture nor the speech is good, they will get nothing.
Homework 1mins Exx.2-3 in Workbook Lesson 49 For revision  
Final Assessment 1mins Count the flags each group has got. To make a conclusion on their achievement, and encourage them to be harder next time. Count the different flags they have, convert them into score, the winner can receive a present from the loser.
